After failing to beat Angola away in Luanda yesterday, Malawi Women’s National Football Team coach Lovemore Fazili says he will now focus on finishing the job back home.
Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Malawi failed to register an away goal that could have given them an advantage ahead of the decisive second leg next Tuesday.
Before the match, Fazili had assured Malawians that his side would “finish the game in Luanda” and qualify for their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). However, that was not the case, as the encounter ended goalless. The final match at Bingu National Stadium will now determine which team progresses.
Fazili expressed confidence that Angola will not triumph in Malawi. He said:
We played much better today; I was expecting to score more goals. We had a grand game from keeper to strikers; it is giving me something that when we go home we will finish the game. I don’t expect a draw back in Malawi.
Excellent play from goalkeeper and defenders today, the only problem was in front of me finishing the ball into the net. Playing away is better to draw than losing the match. We were ahead of the match than our friends. I am sure we will qualify when we face them again in Malawi.
