The Democratic Republic of Congo Women’s National Team striker Merveille Kanjinga says she will give her best to make life difficult for their opponents at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, which is set to kick off in July this year.
As the WAFCON approaches, teams are fine-tuning preparations and aiming to deliver strong performances at the prestigious competition.
DR Congo will be making their fourth appearance at the tournament, still in search of their first WAFCON title. Their best finish came in 1998 when they secured third place.
The Leopards Dames are returning to the WAFCON stage after a 12-year absence. They have been drawn in Group A alongside Zambia, Senegal, and host nation Morocco.
PSG striker Kanjinga, who has scored two goals in nine matches in the French Women’s League, will be making her debut at the WAFCON tournament. The 22-year-old forward caught attention at the last CAF Women’s Champions League, where she helped TP Mazembe win their first continental title.

Speaking in an interview with CAF Media ahead of the tournament, Kanjinga acknowledged the challenge but expressed her determination to give it everything.
“I know it will be tough, but we are going to give it everything, fight to the end. It’s a game and the best will win. No boastfulness, just an unshakeable belief in effort and the team. Yes, I see myself as an experienced player,” said the PSG striker.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from 5th to 26th July 2025 in Morocco.
