The highly anticipated Ndola derby between leaders, Zesco Ndola Girls against second-placed Indeni Roses, is on at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium this Saturday.
Zesco Ndola Girls currently leads the Eden University Women’s Super League table with 36 points, five points ahead of Indeni Roses, who have played two more matches.
William Zulu, the Zesco Ndola Girls head coach, speaking during a pre-match interview, described the clash as a tough challenge but expressed confidence in his team’s preparation.
“We are very much ready for Indeni. We know it won’t be easy; it will be a tough game. It’s a derby, and we are very much ready,” said Zulu.
Zesco Ndola Girls, who have won all 12 of their league games thus far, are intent on winning the championship and seem committed to putting an end to the Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club’s dominance in the league.
“We are on a mission. We just want to collect maximum points. It’s not easy for us to be up there; every team wants to beat us. We want to collect maximum points so that we maintain the position,” Zulu emphasized.
In addition, the derby will act as a prelude to Zesco United’s game versus Power Dynamos later in the day.
Zulu thinks his players will be motivated by the opportunity to perform in front of their male counterparts for the first time.
“It’s a morale booster because we have never played alongside the senior team. We know the senior team will be there to watch us. It’s a motivation to us,” he said.
