Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club head coach Charles Haalubono says the club is still determined to defending the Eden University Women’s Super League, even if after dropping points away at Choma Warriors Academy on Thursday.

The defending champions drew 2-2 against Choma Warriors in the rescheduled Week 8 Super League match.

Maweta gave the visitors the lead in the 40th minute before Martha Palata equalized in the 42nd minute.

Two minutes later, Palata added a second to give Choma Warriors a 2-1 win at halftime. Natasha Nanyangwe scored in the 70th minute to rescue a point for the Zambia Army-sponsored side.

The point leaves Green Buffaloes rooted to fourth position with 30 points, trailing 21 points behind the pacesetters, Zesco Ndola Girls.

In an interview with BolaNews, Haalubono attributed the draw to a host of missed chances from his side, while also noting the resolve shown by Choma Warriors.

“Choma Warriors defended very well; they were fast in reaction and covered each other very well,” Haalubono said. “We missed chances and trailed, which made us play under pressure with panic to equalize.”

Despite trailing by a significant points gap, Haalubono believes the league title chase is far from over.

“Going forward, we have to improve on defending. We will not give up. The league is long, and anything is possible,” Haalubono said.

Next, Green Buffaloes will face Green Eagles in an away Week 18 match on Sunday at Lusaka’s NASDEC Sports Complex.
