Following their undefeated run to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON), Comoros head coach Stefano Cusin has announced the team’s next target.

Cusin’s side recorded three wins and three draws in Group A to finish on top, ahead of Tunisia, and secured their second-ever qualification to the AfCON.

The head coach has revealed that the team’s attention will now shift to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Comoros are currently joint top of Group I in the African World Cup qualifiers, along with Ghana, on 9 points each.

Cusin has guided the team to three wins with only one defeat in the opening matches in which they have scored eight goals and allowed only four goals.

He has revealed that his team wants to create history by being the first team with a population of less than 1 million to qualify for the World Cup.

“You know, our target was to qualify for AfCON. Now we’ve made our target come true. The World Cup is the dream“

“I mean, if it happens, it would be unbelievable, but it’s very difficult because in our group we are up against some very strong teams,” Cusin told CAFonline Media.

“We Will Not Fear Any Team” – Cusin.

“It’s never happened in the history of football that a nation with less than one million people qualifies for the World Cup. But in any case, we will fight for our dream.”

Regarding his expectations for the Africa Cup, Cusin states that the World Cup qualifiers before the tournament set for December 2025 in Morocco will help them gain some experience.

Cusin emphasizes that his team will not fear any team but will be in Morocco to compete.

Ghana lost to Comoros 1-0 in one of several surprise results in the 2026 World Cup qualifying.

“We must go step by step. First of all, we have one year to prepare. And then the World Cup qualifiers will help us to gain experience and to grow again. And then we will arrive in Morocco without expectations. But at the same time, we will not fear any team,” he said.

“There’s no pressure, but at the same time, I know that we can do well because of what the team has already. We’ve beaten Ghana, we beat Tunisia, and we beat Cape Verde. So it means we can achieve something. But we must stay quiet and work. I think this is the secret. When you are young, it’s important to work hard and not talk too much.
