Scorchers and Olympique Lyonnais Feminin striker Tabitha Chawinga has said being among 30 nominees for the women’s Ballon d’Or has given her motivation.
The former PSG striker is thankful to God for all her achievements thus far.
“I see God in everything, this is enough to celebrate and to be thankful to him. I am happy because back home people are celebrating with me plus all my fans across,” she said.
Asked about chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, Chawinga says being nominated alone is a big win for her.
“Let’s wait on what God will give us, I will accept what God will give me, but what you need to know is that on that list, we have a lot of great players who can win it, I should thank God to have given me that opportunity to be on that list, I am happy for that,” she said.
The 28-year-old was nominated after her impressive record at PSG where she scored 29 goals, providing 14 assists in 38 games.
Chawinga left PSG where she was on loan from Chinese club, Wuhan Jiangda and joined Lyon two months ago.
At Lyon, she has already scored a goal in two preseason games the team has played ahead of the league’s kick-off in two weeks’ time.
Chawinga said wants to help Lyon win as many games as they can before putting her personal interest first.
“As a striker I just want to help my team win trophies, the desire is to help my team first while personal accolades will be second,” she said.
