Tabitha Chawinga, the Malawi Scorchers captain and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker, has stated that she is not bitter about not winning the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
Chawinga and Barbara Banda were beaten by Bay FC striker Rachel Kundananji at a ceremony held on Thursday night in Johannesburg, South Africa.
She stated that there is no need to be bitter because there is only one winner at a time.
“I need to congratulate Kundananji for that feat; she deserves it. I am happy for her achievement,” Chawinga told BolaNews in an interview.
“You need to know that in the competition, there is only one person to win it. This time it was for Kundananji. There is always next time so I am positive with the outcome.”
The 27-year-old was nominated for her achievements in Italy, where she won the Golden Boot and scored 23 goals in 21 games for Inter Milan Women. It was the first time a female African player had accomplished such a feat.
Chawinga is also enjoying top form in France this season. She has won the French Women’s League Player of the Season award and currently leading the scorers chart, with 18 goals and six assists.
