Malawi and Paris Saint-Germain striker Tabitha Chawinga was named France’s D1Arkema Player of the Season for 2023/24 last night.
Tabitha is also on track to win the league’s Golden Boot Award after scoring 18 goals and assisting 10 times.
The 27-year-old striker achieved the same feat last season while playing for Italian club Inter Milan. She received the Golden Boot Award for scoring 23 goals in 21 matches.
The Scorchers captain was also named to the league’s best 11 for the season, alongside her three teammates Grace Geyoro, Sakiba Karchaoui, and Elisa de Ameida.
Meanwhile, in a disappointing turn of events, her team did not win the league, finishing second to Olympique Lyon with 50 points, 11 behind the champions.
Tabitha told BolaNews that she wanted to win the league, but she will look to help her team to do so next season.
“I need to thank God for helping me achieve this feat. I could not achieve this without him.
“I also need to thank my teammates who helped me score those goals. Also, big thanks to the technical panel.
“The league has talented players and the competition was very tough for this side. We tried to win the league and it was my dream to help my team win the league but we ended up finishing second. Hopefully, we will come back next season to fight for it,” she said.
