The Luyando foundation player’s switch to Buffaloes will be seen as a valuable addition to the Southern African Women’s Champions as the Copper Queens star has already started training with the club and a deal almost done pending ink to paper.

The 2022 COSAFA Women’s Champions will represent Southern Africa at the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League set to kick off in Morocco from 31st October to 13th November 2022 as they will become the first Zambian club to participate in the competition.

Buffaloes defeated defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the final of the COSAFA Women’s champions League 5-4 on post-match penalties to book a place at the continental women’s club football showpiece for the first time and they are now looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

After lifting the regional trophy, Buffaloes coach Charles Haluboono told BOLA NEWS in an exclusive interview that they needed to reinforce the team ahead of the CAF Champions League tournament.

I believe that we have a good team but for us to go to Morocco and compete favorably, maybe even win the tournament, we will need to reinforce the team with players in almost all the departments

Said Haluboono.

The signing of Katongo who has in the last few months been rumored to be sought-after by European clubs is being seen as a huge boost to the team as they continue preparing for the CAF Champions league after her brilliant performance at the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations where she was a key player in the squad that reached the semifinals for the first time and also booked a historical place at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Green Buffaloes Women’s FC have been pitted in Group A against AS FAR of Morocco, Simba Queens of Tanzania and Determine Girls of Liberia.

Group B of the eight-teams tournament also comprises defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Wadi Degla F.C of Egypt and a UNIFFAC representative.
