According to the CEO of Elite Ladies Football Club, Sepiso Shalala, Xiomara Mapepa and Comfort Selemani are merely on loan to Green Buffaloes women’s side in order to support the army sponsored side defend their COSAFA Championship.
With the Women’s Super League set to begin this month in September, teams are gearing up to provide the much-needed competition to Green Buffaloes who have won three back-to-back Super League titles.
Shalala, who spoke to Bola News, the loan agreement has a stipulation that would allow the current Super League Women’s Champions to extend it should they advance to the Champions League.
One of those teams will be the Elite Ladies Football Club that has become one of the forces to recon with, finishing fourth in last season’s Women’s Super League.
Their strong finish to the season was largely due to Xiomara Mapepa, the Zambia Women’s National Team Winger who scored 28 goals to win back-to-back Golden Boot Awards.
But concerns have been raised in the last few days on how the team can reciprocate last seasons’ form after losing their key players to rivals, Green Buffaloes.
“On loan players, both in Xiomara Mapepa and Comfort Selemani are only at Green Buffaloes for two months. But it also depends on far the team goes,” he said.
“We noticed that they (Green Buffaloes) didn’t do well last year in the Champions League that’s why we loaned them some of our best players. There is a release clause in their contracts that allows Green Buffaloes to extend the loan provided they make it to the Champions League,” he added.
“We have enough ammunition; this season is ours”-Shalala.
Shalala explained that they will sign new players adding that the team has enough ammunition in their squad to compete for the Women’s Super League title in the upcoming season.
“We are ready for the Super League title. Last season we came close, and we believe this season is ours. Our players have what it takes to represent the team very well,” he said.
