SAD: ZPL Women’s Super League Player Dies After Goal Celebration

The Zambian Premier league is engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

The Women’s Super league match between Locus FC and Kabwe Warriors FC ended in disaster after Annita Chomba, a goalkeeper for the visiting side collapsed and died.

Annita, 15 collapsed after rushing from the bench onto the pitch to celebrate a goal.

Efforts to resuscitate her by medical persons at both the pitch and hospital failed.

Annita was a Green Buffaloes Women Football Club goalkeeper who was on loan to Locus Women Football Club at the time of her passing.

Joseph Chimpampwe, Zambian Premier league CEO, expressed sadness with the passing on of Annita.

“The ZPL extends its deepest condolences to the Chomba family, her teammates, the technical staff, and the entire football fraternity during this painful and difficult time. The loss of such a young and promising life is heartbreaking and has left the football community in shock” he said in a statement.

The League is engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

“Further communication will be provided as more information becomes available. The Zambian Premier League calls on the football family and the public to respect the privacy of the bereaved family as they mourn their loved one“.
