It’s been a historic football season for Morocco as their men’s team became the first African team ever to reach the FIFA World Cup semi-final during the 2022 Qatar edition.
Their Women’s team also made history when they booked their place at this year’s Women’s World Cup. The Atlas Lionesses finished as runners-up at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to secure the qualification.
Coach Reynald Pedros has urged his side to emulate their male counterparts at this year’s World Cup.
Pedros insisted that it’s now the women’s turn to prove to the world that Morocco has made progress in football.
“We want to go there and show that Morocco has made progress,” he told the BBC World Service.
Pedros added that his squad would try to draw inspiration from the performance of the men’s team.
“Of course, we are inspired by the men’s achievements at the world cup, it was fantastic, “he said. “Even beyond the result, what was fantastic was the state of mind of this group which arrived there at this world Cup, not as favourites at all and they finished top of their group.”

Morocco’s women’s team qualified for the world cup for the first time in their history. They also became the first Arab nation to do so.
Morocco is in the same group as, two-time champions Germany, South Korea, and Colombia.
The Women’s world cup will start from 20th July to August 20th in Australia and Newzealand.
