Malawian forward Tabitha Chawinga has completed a one-year loan move to French women’s football top-flight league side Paris Saint Germaine (PSG).
The Scorchers captain has joined PSG from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda on a loan deal that runs up to June 30, 2024.
Earlier this week, Tabitha’s local manager, Theana Msolomba, told The Nation Newspaper that the 27-year-old striker received numerous offers from other clubs before settling for PSG.
“Of course, there were other offers, but the viable option was the loan move to PSG, considering that the interests of her parent club also had to be respected,” Msolomba said.
Msolomba also reveals that Chawinga has secured a sponsorship deal with athletic footwear and apparel maker Nike.
Tabitha states that she is excited to join PSG and hopes to add value to the squad.
“I am super excited… They are a big club, and I look forward to adding value,” she said.

Tabitha returns to Europe for another season after spending last season at Inter Milan where she became the first African player to win the Golden Boot with 23 goals in 21 matches in the Italian Serie A Feminile.
The striker leaves the Chinese Women’s Super League after scoring 18 goals in round 16, four better than Copper Queens striker Barbara Banda, who has found the back of the net 12 times.
