Forgotten Copper Queens Striker Sara Jere Eager To Resume Normal Training After ACL Surgery

Jere is recovering from a successful ACL surgery that has kept her out for the past two years.

Zanaco Ladies striker and Copper Queens forward Sara Jere says she has fully recovered from her ankle injury and has resumed training, but is awaiting a final clearance from her South African doctor before making a return to competitive action.

“I have fully recovered now and I have started training with the team. For now I am still waiting to go back for a review in South Africa and have a final check-up since that’s where the operation was done,” Jere told Bolanews in an exclusive interview.

“But my team doctor, she has already confirmed that I am fit now and ready to go back to playing on the pitch. I’m really looking forward to getting back to playing active football so that I can help my team, Zanaco,” she added.

Jere underwent successful surgery in South Africa last year in May, where she had a right Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Extra-Articular Tenodesis reconstruction following an injury sustained during a rescheduled Week One fixture against YASA Queens in December 2023.

The setback ruled her out of the Copper Queens squad for the 2024 WAFCON Qualifiers against Angola, dealing a blow to the national side’s attacking options.

Despite the injury, Jere remains one of Zambia’s standout forwards. She was the country’s top scorer at the 2023 COSAFA Championship with four goals, helping Zambia reach the final. She also topped the scoring charts in the FAZ Women’s Provincial League with 29 goals in 33 matches.

Currently, Zanaco Ladies sit in ninth place with 43 points and just one game left in the season. The return of their prolific striker could provide a much-needed boost as they look to end their campaign on a high.
