Copper Queens and Green Buffaloes FC defender Lushomo Mweemba is expected to return to training next week.

The defender has been out since the Cosafa Women’s Championship 2023 earlier this month.

Mwemba suffered a knee injury during the final against Malawi.

Her club’s team manager, Queen Zulu, confirmed this to Bolanews in an exclusive interview on Tuesday.

She said Mweemba would be expected to begin individual training before joining the rest of the team.

“Lushomo will be reporting back for training next week,” Zulu revealed. “The injury was not that bad, but enough to keep her out for two weeks.

“She will commence training with the first team after a final review.”

Mweemba captained the Copper Queens’ local-based squad in the Cosafa Cup, which they lost 2-1 to Malawi.

Queen also revealed that the center half had the injury long before the tournament in South Africa.

“This injury didn’t occur now. It’s something she has been nursing for a long time,” she stated.

Despite her absence from the club, Green Buffaloes are off to another perfect start in the FAZ Women’s Super League, with two wins in the two games they have played so far.

Over the weekend, the Nyanta Girls beat Zesco Ndola Girls 1-0 to remain the only side alongside Red Arrows with a 100 percent winning record in the 2023–2024 season.

Many Zambians will now hope Mwemba will be fit ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup (WAFCON) qualifiers.

The Copper Queens will face Angola on November 27, 2023, in the first leg of their WAFCON qualifying campaign.
