Malawi Women’s Football team, the Scorchers, have played two international friendly matches against Tanzania and are without a win. Their best result from the two matches is a goalless draw.
To coach Lovemore Fazili, the outcome is something; drawing against Tanzania is a positive outcome, for they are not an easy team to beat.
Fazili said, looking at the performance from the two friendly matches, it tells him a story that Malawi is ready to fight for the trophy at the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals in Morocco next month.
On Wednesday last week Malawi lost 1-0 to Tanzania in an international friendly match before drawing on Saturday night at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Despite that, Fazili promised victory, but the Scorchers mentor was happy with what he saw and told journalists that Malawi is ready for the WAFCON final.
“Again, my team missed scoring chances, but I am happy because we are able to face the goal. I am very happy with how players delivered today (Saturday),” reacted Fazili, adding, “From what we have seen, Tanzania isn’t an easy team; we have learned a lot. With this performance we are ready for Wafcon.”
He said most departments played well, a thing that is giving him hope that come July, Malawi will do good.
“The goalkeeper was very good, the defense solid; in front we had our chances, but the keeper saved. We are now confident that we can go to WAFCON. Excellent performance; it is a positive result that we have not lost,” he added.
