Copper Queens striker Rachael Kundananji has urged football pundits and fans to stop overcriticizing her style of play.
Kundananji, who was part of the Copper Queens squad that was eliminated from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage after 5-0 losses to Japan and Spain, respectively, before recording a consolation 3-1 win against Costa Rica in their final group match, has responded to fans who label her “selfish.”
In a recent interview on The ZMB Talks podcast, the 23-year-old said It’s offensive to call her selfish.
“Calling someone selfish is offensive,” she said. “There are times when my teammates are being marked, I need to hold on to the ball and calculate my moves before I release it.”
Kundananji has recently faced criticism from fans and pundits who believe her style of play during international matches is too selfish.
The Madrid CFF striker said that those who understand and watch football will appreciate her efforts in the national team.
“Not everyone can appreciate, but people who know football will understand. Don’t follow Facebook coaches; give them the team to go and win games. A Facebook coach is just good at talking. A supporter just talks anyhow.”
