On September 3, 2023, Jadon Sancho stated that he had been “a scapegoat for a long time” after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said that he dropped him for their game against Arsenal due to his poor training performance.

“Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue,” Sancho said at the time.”He posted. “I have conducted myself in training very well this week… And I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into. I have been a scapegoat for a long time, which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team.

“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff. I play with fantastic players and am grateful to do so, which I know every week is a challenge. And I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what.”

The 23-year-old initially refused to remove his post from X (formerly Twitter), but later agreed to do so. His Instagram account has now been deactivated.

Sancho is currently training away from the first team as punishment for his post.

90min reports that he is still refusing to apologize to Ten Hag for this outburst and, as the Dutchman has suggested in press conferences, he will not be allowed to return until he does.

“It depends on him,” Ten Hag most recently said about Sancho ahead of Saturday’s win at Burnley.
