Despite starting the season on a high in the Primera Division—the Spanish women’s topflight league—Madrid CFF has transformed itself from a feared team to one that everyone wants to play following their recent poor form.

They have now lost four consecutive matches and have yet to win a game this year, having been defeated 2-1 by Levante, 0-4 by Real Madrid, 0-1 by Athletic Club, and 4-2 by Sevilla yesterday.

Madrid CFF has dropped out of the top four in the league standings and now sits in fifth place with 25 points from 15 matches, 20 points behind leaders FC Barcelona.

They will try to make amends in their remaining 15 games in order to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League via an automatic spot if they finish second or in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, in their last match against Sevilla, Zambia’s Copper Queens attacker Grace Chanda scored her third goal of the season to pull one goal back for Madrid, who were trailing by two goals to nil.

Her Brazilain teammate Gabriela da Silva was the other scorer for the Madrid side that went on to lose the match 4-2 at full time.

It was Chanda’s seventh start in 13 appearances for Madrid CFF and she has four goal involvements (1 assist and 3 goals) so far, while her Zambian teammate Racheal Kundananji, who also started at Sevilla, has eight goals and one assist for the Spanish club in 15 appearances.

Kundananji is also the club’s top scorer, and their coach, Oscar Fernandez Novillo, will be banking on her to help the team recover from their slump.

Madrid CFF will host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, hoping to capitalise on home ground advantage and avoid defeat in front of their fans.
