ZESCO Ndola Girls head coach William Zulu has described Friday’s COSAFA | CAF Women’s Champions League semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies as a do-or-die clash.
The Zambian champions reached the last four as the best second-placed team across the three groups and will face Group A winners Sundowns at 15:00. The two sides already met in the group stages, with the two-time African champions edging ZESCO 1-0.
Speaking following the team’s confirmation, Zulu said his team is motivated and ready to fight for a place in the final.
“It’s a great honour for us to be in the semifinals because that was our dream. We want to qualify for the CAF Champions League. God has answered our prayers because, as ZESCO Girls, we always put God first,” Zulu said.
“Yes, we lost 1-0 to Sundowns in the group stage, but that is water under the bridge. This is a different game, and we are going to approach it differently. It will be a do-or-die encounter. We just have to work hard, win this game, go to the finals, and eventually qualify for the CAF Champions League.”
Zulu expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters, players, and leadership, noting their role in pushing the team this far.
“Our supporters have been amazing — thank you very much for your love, prayers, and encouragement. To my girls, congratulations for working so hard. I love them and I know what they can do. And to our chairperson, who has always been with us in spirit and physically, thank you for the motivation and support,” he added.
The other semifinal will see Botswana’s Gaborone United take on Mozambique’s Costa do Sol for a place in Sunday’s final.
