With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup almost concluding, the competition for the Adidas Golden Boot is starting to take shape.

The player who scores the most goals overall in the competition normally wins the prize.

As the United States won their fourth world championship at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, France’s Megan Rapinoe with six goals defeated England’s Lucy Bronze for the Golden Ball.

Japanese Hinata Miyazawa despite her nation eliminated from the tournament is still in the lead with five goals. The 24-year-old player scored against Norway, Spain and Sweden respectively.

Meanwhile, France striker Kadidiatou Diani, Sweden defender Amanda IIestedt, Alex Popp of Germany and Netherlands Jill Roord have four goals each.

Although Japan, France, Germany and Netherlands have exited the tournament, Swedish Amanda IIestedt remains the only player still in the competition with four goals.

To move into first place with six goals and move one goal ahead of the Japanese Hinata Miyazawa, the Swedish defender will need to score more than two goals against Spain in their semifinal match.

However, five players—Englishwoman Lauren James, Spaniard Aitana Bonmati, Americans Jenni Hermoso and Alba Redondo, and Australian Hayley Raso—all have three goals to their names and still have a chance to earn the 2023 golden boot.
