In March, Tanzania will face Zambia in the second round of the 2025 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Morocco.

The first round match between Tanzania and Eswatini resulted in a walkover for the East Africans.

Currently, Copper Princesses coach Carol Kanyemba is drilling a 37-member squad for the upcoming back-to-back encounters against Tanzania.

In an interview, Kanyemba says the technical bench was hoping to use the footage from the match between Tanzania and Eswatini to access their opponents before the first leg in the first week of March.

Tanzania, who lost to her team in the qualifications last year, would be a difficult opponent, Kanyemba continues.

“It’s not going to be an easy game playing against Tanzania because we will be meeting them for the second time almost the same time as last year and in the same qualification,” she said.

Kanyemba also shares that the aim of the ongoing training camp is to make the team competitive in all the positions, which will ensure consistent performances throughout the match.

“We Aim To Return To The World Cup” – Kanyemba.

“We encountered some hurdles when we were in South Africa; we would start very well, but when we made substitutions, the game tempo would go down, so we’re looking at having replacements that would bring impact to the team even when you make substitutions, so whoever is able to play and is eligible to give them a chance to compete with others.”

Kanyemba adds that she aims to return to the World Cup, with her first outing in the Dominican Republic last year.

“Obviously we need to get back to the big stage because last year’s tournament was like a learning phase for me as a coach and for some of the players that went there, and if we qualify for the tournament for the second time, it would be another advantage to me as a coach and also to the players that were part of the World Cup last year because they’ve gained experience and they’ve got something that they need to show for it, and I can really commend the COSAFA tournament because it helped us to be able to see the confidence levels in our girls and to see how they can handle pressure,” she said.
