Former England striker and Lionesses’ record goalscorer Ellen White has said Barbra Banda will be the player to watch at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

White made 113 appearances for England and scored 52 goals to become her country’s Women’s National Team all-time scorer.

She competed in three FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, in 2011, 2015, and 2019, having made her debut back in March 2010 against Austria.

The former striker has backed her country to win the World Cup following their 2022 UEFA Women’s EURO triumph which was part of before announcing her retirement.

“I am backing England to go all the way. The team looks a little bit different from the Euros win but they still have that experience. They know what winning takes and what it looks like,” White told BBC Sport.

On the players to watch, White believes Zambian skipper, Barbra Banda will be exciting to watch following her recent performances at the Olympics and in the friendly match against Germany.

“Banda was just ridiculously good at the Tokyo Olympics and scored a phenomenal amount of goals. She scored two against Germany earlier this month too. So I am very excited to see her again on the world stage.”
