The England Women’s National Team disappointed fans who waited for them at London’s Heathrow Airport.
The Three Lionesses returned home this morning following their World Cup defeat to Spain, but they disappointed waiting fans by leaving via a private exit, reports Sky News.
Waiting fans had carried signs and gathered in the airport to greet the Women’s World Cup runners-up, with hopes raised when the team’s bags were wheeled through Terminal 3’s arrivals hall.
However, Airport staff eventually told them that the team had already left through a private exit.
The 2022 European Champions lost 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday at a sold-out Stadium Australia in Sydney, courtesy of Olga Carmona’s 29th-minute goal.
It was England’s second defeat in 39 matches since Sarina Wiegman took over as coach. The defeat denied them the chance to add a maiden world title to the European Championship crown they won last year.
Spain became only the fifth country to win the Women’s Cup after winning their first trophy.
They are now behind four-time record holders: the United States, Germany (twice), Norway, and Japan (one each).
