Red Arrows women’s football club head coach Daniel Sibanda has revealed his team’s 2023/24 Women’s Super League target.

The squad has won three straight games in the new season under the leadership of the newly appointed head coach, a former Red Arrows midfielder.

The team has scored 7 goals in just three matches and currently level on points (9) with Indeni Roses.

In an interview with BolaNews, Sibanda stated that the team’s goal is to dethrone the Green Buffaloes, the current league leaders, and win the Women Super League championship.

“The target is to emerge victors at the end of the season. We don’t have to limit ourselves in terms of fighting for first position,” Sibanda said.

He notes that Arrows will have to take each game as it comes in order to achieve their target this season.

“The target is to win each game as it comes. Basically, we need to take our chances and allow the girls to express themselves on the pitch,” he states.

However, Sibanda has noted that the absence of key players, due to military training, might slowdown the performance of the team as the season progresses.

He further added that the technical bench is working with the players available by giving them enough game time so that they can develop confidence.

“The performance of the team is okay, but we are not yet there. We are depilated because most of the players are not with us [due to military training]. So, we are taking each game as it comes. We are not in a hurry what is important is to give confidence to the players who were not playing so that they can showcase their skill,” said Sibanda.

Thirteen Red Arrows first team players, including the Copper Queens quartet of Mary Mulenga, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Hellen Mubanga, and Mary Wilombe, are anticipated to undergo military training.

The former Arrows Under-16 coach has also noted that the Women’s Super League is competitive, adding that it is slowly closing the gap with the men’s Super League.

“The women’s league is interesting because the players are eager, and they are able to compete. From the three teams that we have played so far, they were quick and were able to run. We are heading somewhere, and I think they are closing the gap with the men’s league,” he stated.
