Zesco Ndola Girls have made a perfect start to their COSAFA | CAF Women’s Champions League Group A campaign, securing a 3-0 victory over Namibian side Beauties FC on Friday afternoon.

The Zambian champions, made their intentions clear, against their opposition scoring all three goals in the first 45 minutes.

Skipper Avell Chitundu opened the scoring with a calm finish before Penelope Mulubwa doubled the lead from the spot.

Enelesi Phiri, then sealed the result with a powerful strike from the spot kick to give Zesco full control going into the break.

Despite their best efforts, Beauties FC struggled to create meaningful threats, with Zesco dominating possession and dictating the tempo of the match throughout.

Head coach William Zulu was full of praise for his players but cautioned against complacency.

“It’s a good start for us. But this is now water under the bridge. We have to keep working hard,” Zulu said.

Chitundu voted Player of the Match | Cosafa media.

In the other Group A fixture, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies also registered a commanding 3-0 win, defeating Malawi’s Ntopwa FC.

Reacting to the win, Sundowns coach Godfrey Sapula acknowledged Zesco’s impressive display earlier in the day but stressed the importance of focusing on his own side.

“Zesco played really well and showed they are serious contenders in this competition,” Sapula said. “But for us, the focus is on our strengths and maintaining consistency. Every match is a new challenge, and we want to build momentum.”

With both Zesco Ndola Girls and Sundowns sitting on three points apiece, Sunday’s clash between the two sides promises to be a thrilling top-of-the-table encounter.

As for Ntopwa, they will look to bounce back when they face Beauties FC in the other Group A match.
