The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has proposed to the government to employ coach Lovemore Fazili as a permanent coach for the Scorchers.

Fazili, who has just won Malawi’s first-ever Cosafa Cup, was contracted on a temporary basis as the country’s women’s team coach, and his contract is coming to an end in December.

FAM said a permanent deal for the Scorchers should be established.

The association added that the move is to ensure the sustained progress and development of the team.

“This coach will be in charge of the Scorchers on a full-time basis,” reads part of the statement. “The committee has resolved to propose to the government the recruitment of Lovemore Fazili for this position, with a two-year contract in mind.”

Malawi’s Sports minister Uchizi Mkandawire welcomed the resolution.

“That is a welcome idea and something acceptable,” he said when talking to the media. “Once the proper channels are followed, my ministry should be able to approve that.”

Fazili also told BolaNews that a permanent deal for him would be ideal. He said this at the Chileka Airport on arrival from South Africa.

Malawi won all five games at the Cosafa Cup including a 2-1 win in the final against Zambia. Their players won Player of the Match awards in all those games.

Striker Temwa Chawinga was voted player of the tournament and Golden Boot winner.
