Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club striker Natasha Nanyangwe has made great progress in her return to fitness after sustaining an injury two months ago.
The striker suffered a broken leg on the shin when she collided with the Angolan goalkeeper, Jose during the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa on October 8. The Copper Queens won that match 3-1 and advanced to the final, where they were defeated 2-1 by Malawi.
Nanyangwe has been receiving treatment and has missed league action for pacesetters Green Buffaloes in the Women’s Super League.
She revealed in an interview with BolaNews that she is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Maino Soko Military Hospital.
“By God’s grace, I am recovering fast and am no longer using crutches. I’m walking and now doing my rehab sessions at Maina Soko Military Hospital,” Nanyangwe revealed.
Nanyangwe also stated that “I’m yet to start light training… I’m still on the sidelines.”
Nanyangwe is gutted by not playing WAFCON qualifiers
The former Under-20 striker regrets not playing in the entire COSAFA Women’s Championship and missing the WAFCON qualifiers.
Zambia defeated Angola 12-0 aggregate to qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
“My target this season was to play the entire COSAFA tournament and play the WAFCON qualifier,” she said. “Obviously, I wanted to play in our local league so that at least I could end the season among the top two scorers. Unfortunately, that couldn’t happen because I sustained an injury during the COSAFA tournament.”
Nanyangwe, who was part of the 2022 WAFCON squad, remains optimistic about achieving her target once she returns to full fitness during the course of the current season.
Late last year, Nanyangwe sustained an injury that kept her out of action until April, when she returned to the Green Buffaloes squad as they drew 1-1 against ZISD Women FC in a Super League encounter.

She made remarkable progress despite having played a few matches at the start of the year. As a result, she also missed the 2023 World Cup after initially making the provisional squad.
Nanyangwe was eventually recalled to the Copper Queens squad as the Bruce Mwape-drilled side faced Morocco in back-to-back friendly matches.
