Copper Queens record highest-ever FIFA ranking to break into Africa’s top five

The Copper Queens have climbed five places up in the world ranking, breaking into Africa's top five.

The Zambia Women’s National Team has climbed five steps up in the latest release of the FIFA World Ranking, from 70th place to 65th.

It’s the highest ranking the Copper Queens have ever recorded in history, beating their best rank of 69 in 2023.

They have also leapfrogged Cameroon to occupy the fifth spot in Africa from sixth.

Meanwhile, Africa’s highest-ranked Nigeria has dropped from 34 to 36 but remains the continent’s number one, followed by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who have risen one spot from 52 to 51.

Zambia has risen five places in the latest FIFA world ranking, from 70th to 65th. It is the highest ranking the Zambia women's national team has ever achieved, and they are now ranked fifth in Africa.

Morocco and Ghana are ranked third and fifth in Africa, respectively, as well as 58th and 64th in the world, to complete the continent’s top five.

Globally, reigning world champion Spain remains at the top of the world rankings, with England, France, the United States, and Germany rounding out the top five.
