Copper Queens and ZESCO Ndola Girls Football Club midfielder Avell Chitundu has reacted to her 22-goal tally in the just-ended FAZ Women’s Super League season.
Zesco finished second in the league, while Green Buffaloes successfully defended the title.
The Zambia army side managed 90 points and went undefeated the entire season, with ZESCO Ndola Girls trailing by three points in the second.
Despite failing to clinch the league title, Chitundu has expressed delight in scoring 22 goals this season.
“I’m very excited because we have tried by all means to scoop the league championship, but unfortunately we didn’t,” she said.
Along with Chitundu, her teammate Charity Mubanga scored an impressive 24 goals for the runner-up.
The Copper Queens midfielder believes the team will learn from its mistakes, come back stronger next season, and win the league.
“My next target for next season is to win the league because we haven’t won it before,” Chitundu said. “It’s so sad for the team, so next season we are just pushing. I promise next season we are going to win the league.”
She added: “We have performed very well. There are some mistakes that cost us during the games and the season, but we are looking forward to next season.”
Meanwhile, Green Buffaloes striker Maylan Mulenga emerged as the Super League top scorer with 25 goals.
