Copper Princesses drawn in Group D for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

Zambia will battle one time champions Japan and Brazil in the group stage as well Poland.

The eighth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup draw was conducted on Saturday night in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with Zambia’s Copper Princesses placed in Group D.

The Carol Kanyemba-coached team was drawn against Poland, Brazil, and former winners Japan.

Each of the 16 teams now know their group-stage opponents and future paths in the tournament, with the final scheduled for November 3 in the nation’s capital.

The Dominican Republic is in Group A with Ecuador, New Zealand, and Nigeria, while incumbent world champion Spain is in Group B with the United States, Korea, and Colombia.

Group C includes Korea, Mexico, Kenya, and England.

Here is everything you need to know about the tournament

The 2024 tournament, which runs from October 16 to November 3, will be played in two cities: Santiago and Santo Domingo.

This is the first time the Dominican Republic will host a FIFA tournament.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals. This will be followed by semi-finals, a third-place match, and the final.

This year will also be the last edition with 16 teams before the number increases to 24 for the following edition.
