Kenya Under-17 women’s head coach, Mildred Cheche, is happy with the team’s performance despite losing 2-0 to England in their maiden match at the competition.

Kenya now sits third in Group C, with North Korea and England both on three points, while Mexico is bottom.

Cheche states that the team lined up well, especially defensively. She also observed that they were able to get behind the opposition’s defense when they attacked.

She is confident her side will put up a good performance against North Korea, who thrashed Mexico.

“The team did really well, considering it’s the first time on this kind of platform, so hopefully in the next two games we’ll give our best. I think we had good defensive organization and the power to run behind opponents, so I think they did really well as we had planned,” Cheche.

Meanwhile, England striker Lola Brown revealed that they were anticipating Kenya to bring their physicality to the match and adjusted to get three points.

“We always knew that Kenya was going to be a challenge in the first game, so we just had to work as a team and work for each other to get the three points. We knew it would be a physical game, so we just had to cope with that,” Brown said.

Kenya’s next match will be on Monday against North Korea.
