Brazil becomes first South American nation to host FIFA WWC

Brazil hopes to win the most important women's football trophy on home soil in 2027. They haven't yet held the trophy.

Following its election to host the 2027 edition at the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, Brazil will become the first country in South America to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

For the first time ever, through an open vote, Brazil received 119 votes, while the joint bid of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany received 78 votes.

At the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Spain became victorious after defeating England 1-0 in the championship match.

Ten editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will take place in 2027; China hosted the competition’s inaugural event in 1991.

Other past hosts of the tournament are Sweden, the USA, Germany, Canada, France, and Australia and New Zealand as co-hosts.

The 2027 season continues with 32 teams set to participate following the expansion in the number of teams from 24 to 32, which saw a record-breaking three teams from Africa qualifying for the Round of 16.

The world governing body has not yet revealed the exact dates of the competition.

Brazil have not yet laid their hands on the most coveted trophy in women’s football and will be aiming to clinch it on home soil in 2027. The Selecao came close to winning it in 2007, but they lost to Germany in the final.

In the previous nine editions of the global showpiece, the USA has won four titles, while Germany has two, with Norway, Japan, and Spain each finishing at the at the top of the podium.
