Copper Queens Paris Olympic opponents, Australia has appointed former Estonia men’s national team coach Magnus Pehrsson as a technical adviser.
The Matildas are in Group B alongside European giants Germany, the United States of America (USA), and Zambia.
Australia has set a target of bettering their fourth-place finish in the previous edition held in Japan.
Pehrsson has managed several Swedish and Danish clubs, including Malmo FF, overseeing League, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Cup campaigns.
Speaking to Football Australia, Matildas head coach Tony Gustavsson is optimistic the team will benefit from Pehrsson’s coaching experience.
“We are pleased to have Pehrsson as we prepare to face set of group opponents,” he said.
He added, “He not only brings a wealth of experience at high levels but also a track record of success, having overseen Swedish League titles and Cup finals with the teams he has managed”
“We have an opportunity to leverage that experience for the benefit of our Paris campaign, and I believe Magnus will be an invaluable asset.”
Meanwhile, Pehrsson said he wants to use his experience to help Australia further improve its performances at the Olympic Games.
“I hope to use my extensive experience as a head coach and tactical ability to provide insight that can assist Tony and the players in the months ahead,” he stated.

Before joining the Matildas, Pehrsson, the 47 was Director of Football and Head Coach at Spanish club Velez CF.
