Kylian Mbappe began his reign as captain of the France national team on Friday night with a 4-0 win over the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 qualifiers in Paris.
Mbappe replaced long-standing France captain Hugo Lloris who retired from international football after the world cup in Qatar
The new French captain scored twice while Antonio Griezmann and Dayot Upamecano scored the other goals for the World Cup finalists in that match.

Meanwhile, Mbappe stated after the game that they did not want to disappoint their fans because it was the first game after the World Cup.
“We didn’t want to disappoint our fans. This was our first game back here after the world Cup and we really wanted to pick up where we left off there, except for the final,” he said.
Mbappe also, urged his side not to be carried away by the victory.
“I try to do my job, to be decisive and bring everyone else with me. It worked well today but this is just the beginning so let’s not get carried away.”

Deschamps chose Mbappe over Antoine Griezmann, despite the fact that Griezmann, a 117-cap Atletico Madrid player, is 32 years older. Griezmann will instead be Mbappe’s deputy.
France will face the Republic of Ireland in the group, which also includes Greece and Gibraltar, on Monday.
