Victor Osimhen was the star of the show as Napoli advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history after defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 at home in the second leg, winning 5-0 on aggregate.
In-form striker, Osimhen, scored in each half of the game. Piotr Zielinski also converted from the penalty spot to ensure the club made history on Wednesday night.
Osimhen has now scored 13 goals in his last 12 games this season, and his brace last night brought his season total to 23 goals in 28 games across all competitions.
The Nigerian striker became the first player in Napoli’s history to score in both matches of a European knockout round.
Osimhen says he will keep dreaming
Speaking after the match, the reigning Serie A top scorer with 19 goals believes that his Napoli side can win the competition.
“It’s amazing to make history with this win. I’m happy to contribute to this win, we want to keep on going like this. It’s beautiful to advance in this kind of competition,”
“We will keep on dreaming; we have the squad to do so (win the Champions League). I think we are on the right path. We have a great coach. We will see what the future holds for us, but I think we have a good chance,” said Osimhen in a post-match interview with Amazon Prime.
For the first time in 17 years, three Italian clubs have qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals, with Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli all securing spots in the competition’s last eight.
Meanwhile, Napoli have now won all four of their Champions League home matches this season, scoring 14 goals in the process.
