Newcastle United recorded a famous 4-1 win over French champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.

Miguel Almiron scored Newcastle’s first Champions League goal at St James’ Park since 2003. He put the Magpies in the lead after just 17 minutes in the game.

The second goal came just before halftime, when Dan Burn’s header was awarded following a VAR review.

In the second half, when many thought PSG would have come back into the game, Sean Longstaff added a third goal shortly after the restart.

Lucas Hernandez’s header just before the hour mark gave PSG a consolation goal.

But Newcastle added the icing on the cake with a fourth goal in injury time through Fabian Schar to end the match 4-1.

It was a silent night for the 2022 FIFA World Cup top scorer, Kylian Mbappe, who only managed one shot throughout the match.

Reacting to the defeat, Luis Enrique said they paid a price for making too many mistakes.

“It wasn’t the match we wanted to play, obviously,” he told PSG TV after the game. “We weren’t sharp enough, and we paid for our mistakes—the errors we made when we had the ball.

“I am not going to say it was unfair, because Newcastle are a great team who played very well and deserved to win.

“I will be looking forward to play them again in Paris.”
