Following Liverpool’s 2–1 defeat to Crystal Palace, manager Arne Slot urged calm, insisting there was no need to panic. His words now carry more weight after Liverpool’s emphatic 5–1 victory over Frankfurt in the Champions League.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s game, Liverpool had been on a four-match losing run in all competitions; they could not afford to extend that to five.
Inside the first quarter of the game, it looked like they were on the path to defeat as they went down in the 26th minute to a Rasmus Kristensen goal.
However, the Slot machine quickly picked up with a Hugo Ekitike handing Liverpool the equalizer in the 35th minute after being set up by Andrew Robertson.
Liverpool got the lead in the 39th minute when defender and captain Virgil van Dijk connected a Cody Gakpo pass. Three minutes from the break, Liverpool were comfortable as Ibrahima Konate added to the tally.
In the second half, Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszial scored in the 66th and the 70th minute respectively to put the result beyond Frankfurt’s reach.
Slot now hopes his team can keep the momentum and pick up a number of wins, starting with the weekend’s game against Brentford in the Premier League.
