Despite a 2-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matchup, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admitted the team was “bugged” by their inability to defeat the Blues with a huge scoreline.
Los Blancos put one leg in the semifinals at the Santiago Bernabeu, with goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.
However, their inability to score more goals against a ten-man Chelsea after Ben Chilwell was red-carded for a foul on Rodrygo vexed Courtois.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper expressed disappointment that his team could not inflict more damage on the Blues.
“Every time you play a big knockout match, you’re left with the sensation that you could have, should have, killed the tie off, “Courtois was quoted by UEFA.com.
“Chelsea nearly scored right, at the end. This is a good result… But we’re bugged by the fact that we didn’t score a third or even a fourth goal,” he added.
“I hope we don’t regret.”-Courtois
Courtois was visibly not very pleased with the result due to fears of a potential comeback in London by the Blues.
He went on to say: “I hope we don’t regret not having added another when we play again next week.”
Last year, Chelsea lost the first leg 1-3 at home but went on to beat the Spanish giants 2-3 at Bernabeu to exit the competition with a bit of pride.

The two will clash again on Tuesday next week at Stamford Bridge for the final leg.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti said Chelsea has a good team and a promising manager in Frank Lampard.
He said he hopes Lampard will be a fantastic manager but not next Tuesday when the two meet again.
“I have a good memory of him – a fantastic player. I hope he will be a fantastic manager but not necessarily next Tuesday.”
