Victor Osimhen, 24, says he wants to win the African Footballer of the Year Award.
The Super Eagles striker has scored 21 league goals this season in 23 appearances for Napoli. He is currently topping the goalscoring charts in the Italian Serie A.
Osimhen who missed Napoli’s Champions League quarterfinal tie which they lost 0-1 to AC Milan last night, also has four goals in five outings in the competition.
Senegalese and Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane is the current holder of the prestigious African award, having won it in the last two years, with Egypt’s Mohamed Salah also winning it back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.
Since former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu won the award in 1999, no Nigerian footballer has won it. Osimhen has since set his sights on winning it this year.
According to the Dailymail UK, Osimhen stated in an interview that winning the African Footballer of the Year award would be a dream come true for him.
“I am not going to lie. It would be my dream to be African footballer of year,” he said
