National Division One side Konkola Blades defensive midfielder Evans Abu believes the Chililabombwe-based club deserves to play in the Zambian Super League.

The Beston Chambeshi-tortured side was relegated from the Super League last season and has started well in the 2024-25 National Division One League.

The 27-year-old Ghanaian, who previously played for Jumulo Football Club in both the Copperbelt Provincial Division One and the National Division One League, believes the team deserves to compete in the top flight because of its pedigree in Zambian football.

In an interview with BolaNews, Abu, who has been with the club since 2021, says his goal is to help Konkola Blades return to the Super League and qualify for the Absa Cup tournament.

“My target this season is to help the Blades come back to where we belong in the Super League,” he said. “Blades is a big club in Zambia that deserves to play at the highest level of football. The other target is to qualify for Absa because it has been a while since we participated in that competition.”

National League is competitive, admits Abu

Sharp Razor is currently leading the National Division One League table with 12 points, four better than second-placed Trident Football Club, while Mpulungu Harbour and Kansanshi Dynamos have seven points each.

The midfielder, who previously played for Ashanti Gold in Ghana, has described the National Division One League as competitive.

“The competition in the national league is very high, as all the teams in that league has good quality players that can help to qualify their respective clubs, and every game is like a final so that makes the league competitive,” he said.

Last season, Abu was restricted to only four matches after sustaining two injuries. He has recovered and looks set to fight for a place in the squad.
