Trident Football Club forward Maurice Sichone has opened up about the inspiration behind the emotional message he sent to his mother after scoring in a Week 25 ZPL National League match against league leaders Konkola Blades.

The Conquerors secured a 1-1 draw, with Sichone’s 55th-minute goal canceling out Clenn Aful’s opener for Konkola Blades in the 20th minute.

After netting his first goal since joining Trident FC from Mpulungu Harbour, Sichone dedicated the goal to his mother, who had been ill. His message, “Get well soon, Mom,” reflected his deep concern for her health.

In an interview with Bola News, Sichone shared that he had struggled with how to express his feelings to his mother, who had been in a car accident last September. Just a day before the match, he received the news that she was unwell again.

Sichone explained that after speaking with his sister, he found the inspiration for his message. “First of all, I would like to thank God. I got the news of my mother not being too well a day before the match. I thought a lot about it, but I struggled with the idea of writing. So, the idea came to me after talking to my sister,” he said.

He continued, “She told me that today you have a match and encouraged me to invest all my thoughts in the match. She told me to score a goal for our mother, because whenever my mother hears that we have played a match, if she calls me, the first thing she does is ask if I have scored a goal or if I assisted. My sister said that if you score a goal, our mother will feel better. I thank God I was able to score a goal.”

Reflecting on his first goal for the team, the 18-year-old expressed his joy at scoring in such a high-stakes match against top-of-the-table Konkola Blades.

“I would like to thank the leaders and players of Trident FC for welcoming me with so much love. Honestly, I feel great to score in such an important match, and I’m delighted that it was my first goal,” said Sichone. “I feel really good.”
