Kitwe United’s longest-serving defender, Moses Lolozi, has revealed that he wants to see the team return to the Zambian Super League before he retires from active football.

United In Decade-Long Super League Absence.“Last Season Was Challenging” – Lolozi

lolozi, 36 played over 200 matches for the legendary Kitwe-based side since returning from a loan spell at Mufulira Wanderers 10 years ago, the 36-year-old finished the 2024/25 season as the club’s joint top scorer with 6 goals.

Lolozi started playing football for Kitwe United in the youth division while still a schoolboy, and in 2008 he was promoted to the main team.

He then suffered an injury setback that kept him on the sidelines until mid-2013, when he returned to Kitwe United.

Lolozi spent the 2013 Super League season on loan to Indeni FC. For the 2015 season, he moved to Mufulira Wanderers on loan.

Since his return to the Garden Park domiciled side, Lolozi has helped the team win promotion to the Super League twice – first in the 2018 season, where they finished above the relegation zone to play another season in the top topflight after an 11-year absence.

In an interview, Lolozi says he wants to see the team retain its Super League status before he hangs up his boots.

“That is the reason why even today I may say that I haven’t retired, because for me the time we brought back Kitwe United in the Super League, it had stayed almost 11 years without coming back to the Super League,” he said.

“Last Season Was Challenging” – Lolozi

“I think we have stayed for almost four years in the lower ranks, the Kitwe United supporters are not proud about it, but all in all, come next season, that is the thing that we are looking into so that the team can come back to stay in the Super League; it has stayed in the national league for too long.”

After Kitwe United finished in ninth place, Lolozi called the season difficult, but he was hopeful about a better showing in next season.

“Last season it was very challenging. It wasn’t a season that we could like looking back on. It was very challenging – very much challenging – and we didn’t even expect that we could even finish in the position where we are because a lot of challenges had knocked us,” Lolozi said.

He added, “We are just praying and hoping that most of the challenges which are there will be tackled this season so that the team comes back to the Premier League.”

In terms of goal scoring, Lolozi said, “I’m scoring goals to inspire mostly the young players who are looking up to me. Being a leader, you just have to inspire those who are following you. So they see the examples that you’re setting for them, that for you to be a leader, you have to do certain things that they don’t expect you to do so that others who are looking up to you can see the potential and the strength that you’re putting up for the team for the betterment of the team.”
