Konkola Blades Football Club captain Kelly Kayembe says finishing top of the table midway through the season has instilled pride and confidence in the team as they work to return to top-flight football.
After 18 games, the Blades are currently leading the ZPL National League table with 41 points, four ahead of second-placed Kansanshi Dynamos.
Beston Chambeshi’s team has 12 wins, 5 draws, and one loss so far in the 2024-25 season.
In an interview with BolaNews, Kayembe said there is a lot of motivation among the players after an outstanding first-round performance. He has, however, warned that there is still a long way to go before Sharp Razor can confirm their spot in the elite league.
“Finishing the first round of the season at the top of the table with only one defeat has brought a sense of pride and confidence within the squad,” Kayembe said.
“The guys are motivated and eager to build on our strong start and continue pushing for success. However, there may also be a sense of caution, as we know the challenges that can arise in the second half of the season.”
Following their qualification for the ABSA Cup, Kayembe said the team wants to improve their performance in the competition.
“Knockout competitions can be unpredictable, but there is a sense of motivation to perform well,” he stated.
