Prison Leopards Football Club secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Chambishi Football Club, setting up a thrilling finish to the 2024/25 ZPL National League season.
A second-half strike from attacking midfielder Wilmore Haatembo proved decisive for the Kabwe-based side, moving them within a point of the top four. Trident Football Club currently holds fourth place with 54 points, while fifth-placed River Plate and sixth-placed Prison Leopards are level on 53 points.
The battle for the final promotion slot remains intense, with Trident, River Plate, and Prison Leopards all needing a win to secure Super League qualification.
Speaking to BolaNews, Haatembo expressed confidence in his team’s chances of clinching promotion.
“I feel good, but what was important was the 3 points; this match was very important. I have high hopes that we will grab the important points; the fighting spirit from everyone is high,” Haatembo said.
He emphasized that the Zambia Correctional Service-sponsored side deserves to play in the top tier of Zambian football.
“It will be very important we don’t deserve to play in this league, looking at the calibre of the players the team has. As a team we have given our best, although I feel we could have done better in some matches we failed to pick up points,” he stated.
So far this season, Haatembo has made 23 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. Yet, he believes there is still more to come from him.
“I really feel I can do better than this. I know what I can do; this is not the best for me,” he said.
Looking ahead, Haatembo remains hopeful and determined.
“I look forward to raising my bar and performing even better the coming season, hopefully in the Super League. I’m optimistic that the team will qualify,” he added.
