Trident FC striker Maybin Kalengo is excited to begin his new football journey with the team on a high note.
The striker helped Trident win 3-0 over Chipata United, keeping them in fourth place in the promotional race.
Kalengo recently moved from Kafue Eagles Football Club on a 6-month contract. The towering striker scored his fourth goal of the season, following three with Kafue Eagles in the season’s opening round.
In an interview with BolaNews, Kalengo expressed that scoring on his debut was a special feeling.
“Scoring a goal is arguably the best feeling, even better if you are a striker. We live on goals; Saturday’s goals will be boosting us all the way till next weekend’s matches. Scoring goals is one of life’s true pleasures,” he stated.
The former Yanga Sports Club striker spent the opening half of the season with Kafue Eagles, who struggled to move out of the relegation zone in the initial stages of that season.
Kalengo on time at Kafue Eagles
In reflection on his time with the Kafue Town Council-sponsored side, Kalengo notes that the coaches and players were determined to work hard and ensure the team was out of the troubled relegation waters.
“Relegation isn’t always a bad thing. Fighting relegation sparks a sense of determination into the players and that was my experience at the club. I realized that we need to work extra hard… But the credit goes to the boys and technical bench for the hard work,” Kalengo said.
The 26-year-old added that he’s focused on helping his team stay in contention for promotion to the MTN Super League.
“The number of goals scored can vary depending on the league you play in. I focus on working hard to score goals and help the team, rather than worrying about what’s considered average or good.”
