City banks on Maite, Mutondo defeats to gain promotion

Chairman of City of Lusaka Justin Zulu is still confident that the team from Chilenje would finish the season strong in the hopes of being promoted.

If Mufulira Wanderers or Mutondo Stars lose on the final day of the league, the City of Lusaka Football Club will advance to the Super League with a victory over Kafue Celtic.

Only two berths are open because both Trident FC and Konkola Blades already secured promotions to the Super League.

The trio of Mutondo Stars, Mufulira Wanderers, and the City of Lusaka are vying for the two open berths, which will be decided on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with Bolanews, club chairman Justin Zulu stated that the squad has received a ton of sponsorship throughout the season.

“We want to thank David Casile, the club’s CEO, for the good sponsorship. He has provided throughout the current season,” he stated.

“The league is tough”-Zulu.

Despite the stiff competition, Zulu believes City will end the season by winning promotion to topflight league.

“Yamoto is Yamoto,” he said. “We’ll fight to the bitter end to ensure that we are promoted….. And we will do our best despite the fact that this league hasn’t been simple, he remarked.

City to reward players?

Zulu declined to comment on the team’s efforts to reward its players with various incentives.

“We have done everything we can and we have put a number of things in place for them as a team which I cannot disclose now.”

The three teams still in contention for Super League promotion include Mutondo Stars, Mufulira Wanderers, and City of Lusaka.
