Chipata United Football Club’s head coach, Gildah Hachiwa, has pledged to keep the club in National Division One beyond this season.
On Saturday, the Lions defeated the Lumwana Radiants 1-0 at David Kaunda Stadium in a dramatic Week 28 match.
Arthur Chipeta’s lone goal in the second half secured all three points for Chipata United, who defeated 10-man Lumwana Radiants to move up to 10th place on the log table with 34 points.
As a result, United have opened up a four-point lead over the relegation-threatened teams.
Hachiwa, who has three wins in four matches since taking over, notes that the players have worked extra hard to achieve results.
He added that the recent strong performances are dedicated to the fanbase in the city of Chipata.
“What we all need to understand is that where the league has reached is ‘ilibebede’; we’ll fight hard to maintain the slot and put a smile on the faces of the people of Eastern Province,” Hachiwa stated.
Despite the club’s numerous challenges, Hachiwa remains optimistic about its survival after defeating one of the best-sponsored teams in National Division One.
“The plan we had was to beat Lumwana, and I salute my boys for playing well and enduring till the final whistle. We knew Lumwana very well; they’re a big team, and the win pays back to the people that are supporting the team despite numerous challenges,” he said.
Next up, Chipata United will be on the road to face Mpulungu Harbour Football Club at Muzabwera Grounds.
“We urge them [sponsors] to continue supporting us even as we take on Mpulungu harbor in an away fixture,” Hachiwa says.
Hachiwa has transformed Chipata United’s performance with a record of defeats to Zesco Malaiti Rangers and wins against Atletico Lusaka, Chambishi FC, and Lumwana Radiants.
