Around noon today, Zesco Shockers defender Kabika Kabika passed away suddenly in a road traffic accident while the team was en route to Mwandi for a Week 12 match against the Mwandi Leopards.

The Football Association of Zambia(FAZ) has confirmed the death in a statement on their Facebook page, stating that Kabika died immediately and that two more players have been sent to Lewanika General Hospital in Mongu for additional medical care.

FAZ further says other players were treated for various injuries in Senanga and released from the hospital.

The accident occurred a few kilometers away from Senanga’s Sioma Bridge and it came hours after five players from Solwezi Academy Queens also died in a road traffic accident today in Mkushi.

“Barely a few hours after the football family was coming to terms with the death of four Solwezi Queens Academy players and a coach, another tragedy has struck with a Zesco Shockers player Kabika Kabika dying in a road traffic accident,” wrote FAZ.

In 2018, Kabika, a gifted young defender, assisted the Western Province under-17 boys in winning their first interprovincial ball title.
