Paris Saint Germain (PSG) manager Christophe Galtier said Mbappe was made vice-captain of the club at the start of the season. However, Presnel Kimpembe who was the club’s vice-captain claims he was not made aware of the decision.
Previously, Kimpembe and midfielder Marco Verratti would regularly stand in the absence of first-team captain Marquinhos but on Monday, Mbappe led the team in their 7-0 victory over sixth-placed side Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France.
Kimpembe has stated that he was not made aware of the club’s decision to demote him as vice-captain.
“In the last few hours, I have been able to hear and read a lot about myself,” he wrote. “I, therefore, wish to make things clear in order to avoid continuing to spread false information about me. I was not made aware of this decision, this is completely false.
“That said, I will always respect the decisions of the club,” read his statement.
